Oh the joys of moving flat. Living out of boxes and choking on paint fumes...
Anyway, schedule is now back on track (We have internet access again!) and the 16 track is out of mothballs. (What are mothballs? Never having seen any we have this strange image in our minds!) Fingers crossed we'll have a new mini album finished by the end of April, about a month later than we'd hoped, but then some things in life are worth waiting for. What else? Oh yeah, just to prove we can handle our critics we've posted another review, this time from top UK music site 'Drowned in Sound' here, (well not everyone can love us). And hopefully we'll have photos by the next time we post, though the Captain is very particular about which side is his most photogenic. We reckon it's his backside (Mutinous thought alert!). Can't wait to get out and gig - it will happen, but we want it to be special, just for you. More news soonest...

Short and sweet, lots going on.

Sorry. We know - it's been a month and not a word. Not a single line saying "Hi we're still alive" or anything.
Well that's because some of us are trying to come up with interesting lyrics and haven't got time to waffle on at length about who we've met or what clothes we're wearing at the moment. (But between you, me and the bedpost, The Captain's recently taken to sporting a pink spandex catsuit and clashing lime green cape. Those Darkness fellas have a lot to answer for...)
Where were we? Oh yeah, lyrics. Does anyone really care? Frankly no. Try and remember the verses to Strawberry Fields Forever; and how many times have you heard that record? Sod it, we may as well go down the Kylie route "nanana nana nana na" and sell a few records...
Um.
You mean we've been dredging the recesses of our emotional ponds for nothing?!?! Anyway, The Captain's just reminded me that we like "challenging" lyrics and has grounded me for two months or until the next 4 songs lyrics are finished, whichever comes first, so I'd better shut it.
Right, actual news. Two new songs from the mini-album for download next week. However we're also taking two tracks off the site (for the moment), so if you haven't added the current mp3s to your collection we suggest you get onto it pronto. Also another review for your delectation at Leeds Music Scene.
Just for our amusement we've compiled a list of bands we've been told we sound a bit like (anything to get out of writing lyrics). It'll be up next time. Bet you can't bloomin wait. 'Til then, dear friends...

Happy New Year!
Christmas, don'tcha just luv it? Cd's arrived magically in our collective stockings, including albums by Kings Of Leon, The Beatles (finally getting them on CD), Desert Sessions, Rufus Wainwright, Guided By Voices and Ryan Adams. The CD player keeps overheating.
I suppose this is the time of year for annual 'bestovs', so being creatures of tradition, here we go...
Top 5 Bands of the year 2003
1. Rufus Wainwright - surely the best thing since Jeff Buckley?
2. BlueSky Band - It's all about the melodies, eh chaps?
3. Radiohead - Hail to the nerds.
4. Outkast - Hey Ya! Da-da-da-da dadada dadadum.
5. The Darkness - Ironic? Or just bloody ace songs?
...ask us tomorrow, it'll probably be 5 different bands, that's how good a year it's been for tunes.
As for us...
Ravaged by flu, we carried on regardless over the festive season getting the bare bones of 3 new songs recorded. You'll probably be able to hear us coughing up our guts on the final mixes if you listen closely enough. The Captain decided that the only solution was Port and Brandy mixers and spent the entire time shouting orders from a darkened corner of the room - obviously he was ignored.
Upcoming in the next few weeks - more reviews, perhaps another mp3 or two, live action(??) and all the news from the land of the ice and snow.

Christmas, eh? That time of year again. Sleigh bells roasting on an open fire etc, etc. Well it may be a relaxing time for the rest of you, but the Captain will be spending the entire festive period slaving to get more delicious slices of songsmithery delivered to your hard drive. And why? Because he’s got nothing better to do, that’s why. Oh yeah and of course because he loves you all and Christmas is a time for giving: Which reminds us, give us your email addresses and we’ll reciprocate with lots of cool emails throughout the year informing you of vital Wilberforce trivia.
Oh, you want some actual news… Well we’ve got two new reviews - The first coming from Sandman fanzine in Leeds (click here to read it before the December edition appears on the website) and t’other courtesy of Toxic Pete e-zine.
Cheers to everyone who got in touch after our last mailout. For all of you who missed out on our ltd edition free cd - don’t worry, The Captain is organising a giveaway after Christmas that’ll make all those who got our poxy demo freebie purple with jealousy. Whoops, did I say that out loud or just think it. Awww, what the hell.
The last word(s). Gary Jules - "Mad World" go buy it!

Here we are then, all posh and dot com, how can we afford the luxury? Well the other kidney seems to be holding up on its own (for the moment).
And the benefits of this new site are?
*An MP3 page that is much easier to access than before for one thing.
*Quicker updates on the news front for another (Hey - you can still access the archived news below).
*Ok, so there aren’t that many yet, but it’s captainwilberforce DOT COM, damn it!
Anyhoo, after you’ve listened to some songs, read a couple of reviews and found out what we’ve been up to on our holidays, email us and let us know what you think. We’ve got a bunch of Ltd Edition Cds of our demo mini-album for people who get in touch. Hurry up, The Captain is just sitting around twiddling his thumb, waiting for your comments. Before we sign off we’d like to thank webmaster Treen in an effusive and public manner for all her work on the site. What a star!
