Finally, the album is recorded. Took months longer than planned, but the results are going to knock you out, honest! The mixing process gets underway next week, so it should be ready for your delectation by the end of January (fingers and toes crossed!). Oh, and after some lyric rewriting, Promises Promises is now called Don't Get Me Started! I'm going to start taking pre orders for the album from Jan 1st, so you can put buying a copy on your New Year's resolutions list!
In the meantime, that last gig of the year I mentioned on Dec 22nd, well the venue's been changed to Beaver Creek Studios, Wyther Lane, Leeds, LS5 3BT. It's FREE in, so no excuses...

Woeful. Yep, my upkeep of the site recently has been lax, but on the flip side the new album is basically recorded (apart from a couple of little bits!). The tracklist has yet to be finalised, but the songs are: Everybody Loves a Villain; No Strings Or Ties; The Girl Who Broke Her Own Heart; Confetti, Champage and Roses; Promises Promises; The Twilight Kids; One Less Fish; Born Again Brand New Man; Get A Grip My Dear; The Stranger; The Longest Night.
I'm hoping it'll all be mixed and mastered ready release in late January, which is later than I'd hoped, but hey, I've got a life too! It'll be available to download via iTunes and Napster etc., but there'll also be a ltd edition of 1000 cds which you'll be able to buy from this site and (fingers crossed) in all good independent record stores.
As for Mindfilming, the songs are still going strong. For example, click here and you can watch a clip from Fashion TV on designer Alexander McQueen with "A Very British Earthquake" as the soundtrack. Also, 'W H Smith' and 'Bookers Cash and Carry' stores across the country are currently playing a compilation CD featuring Captain Wilberforce songs, so keep an ear out when you're doing your Christmas shopping!
The Sandman review hasn't appeared yet, but I'm assured it'll be printed before Global Warming destroys the last vestiges of humanity, so that's a comforting thought.
Oh, and finally, I've got one last gig this year on December 22nd at the Faversham - more details as I get them. I'll be aiming to play a few new songs as well as some old crap, so make sure it's down in your festive diary. ps. It's a No Title Magazine gig, so hopefully I'll get a bit of a write up in there too...

The album is really taking shape now, with drums, guitars and bass for 7 of the 11 songs finished. I'd like to give more regular updates on the site, but I'm spending all my spare time working on the songs – it's pretty time consuming stuff!
I did take a quick break last Sunday, but only to be interviewed by Tony W for an upcoming edition of Sandman magazine. It probably would have gone slightly more smoothly if Tony’s bag with questions / dictaphone hadn’t been nicked while he was taking photos, but we’re both professionals; we persevered.
Seeing as it’s my first 'print' interview (I'm an old hand at radio interviews now, having done two!), I'll be interested in what actually gets included. At least he’s not going to be stuck for content – I'm sure I ranted on for the best part of an hour, occasionally even saying something interesting. Anyway, look out for the review in either September or October's issue of Sandman…

Quick update. I was ill for a couple of weeks (apologies to any of you who went to the Mixing Tin gig!), then I went on holiday and recovered (probably the sea air). I've got some photos of the gig at The Cavern up here, taken by Wil and Daizy (luvverly people!). No gigs until at least September - I'm concentrating on the album. Which isn't going to be out in Spring 2006, obviously. Bloody deadlines...

29/05/06
Yeah, yeah, yeah! So I've finally played the Cavern and it was fab. The whole International Pop Overthrow festival (or at least the bits I managed to catch) was brilliant and a credit to David Bash who organised it. And I'm not just saying that because he introduced me in glowing terms before both gigs! However, I'm hoping he likes the new album enough to invite me again next year, maybe even to get me over to the States, heh heh...
So, only one more gig before I take a summer hiatus to get to grips with recording the new songs. So get yourselves along to Mixtape@Mixing Tin on June 7th for 7.30pm.
I've decided to put the new gig section on hold til later in the year but the DVD footage of the New Roscoe gig is on its way as soon as I get my head around the technical 'issues'.

17/05/06
I'm only posting to prove I'm still alive and doing stuff! Apart from missing both the best FA Cup ever and tonight's Champion's League final, rehearsing is going well and we've even finished some recording of the drum / bass parts for the new album: I've also finished the lyrics of 7 of the 11 songs.
I'm looking forward to follwing in the footsteps of the Fab Four at The Cavern Club next week and The Fashion channel have used "I Haven't Got Any Famous Friends" on one of their features. Life is good. I even got a great new review from Denmark which (once admirably translated by Hanne, Thanks!!) says "{Captain Wilberforce}... makes explosive guitar dominated power-pop which does not shy away from dramatic layer-cake overdubbing and windmill power chords". Phew! It's all go, you know.
I haven't forgotten about getting the new pics up, so bear with me. In the next few weeks I should also have some downloadable DVD footage of my gig at the New Roscoe (which was ace, by the way - Seth and Erin from Dufus were top!) - see how I'm slowly getting things done? How good am I, eh?

06/05/06
Well the photo session down in Laaandon went fantastically well - the results will be up soonest so let me know what you think!
Hope you're all coming along on Monday to the gig at the New Roscoe. I'm supporting Seth Faergolzia of New York anti folk band Dufus: doors are 8pm and it's £5 entry. I'm really looking forward to this one as I've heard a lot of good things about Dufus - they've toured over here before with ace Birmingham pop mavericks Misty's Big Adventure.
I am working on the gigs page, really I am, but there's quite a bit of effort involved and it's being directed elsewhere at the moment. Actually apart from the gigs later this month at the International Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool (24th and 28th May) and a spot at Mixtape@Mixing Tin, Leeds (June 7th) I won't be putting anything new in the diary until the album is released when I'll be doing a tour. Which is even more reason you should come along on Monday...

27/04/06
3 weeks and no entries - shame on me! I've been busy though, honest;
I've written a couple more contenders for the new album including my new favourite "Everyone Loves A Villain".
I've been rehearsing the new songs with a fantastic drummer who shall initially remain nameless, just to build up the mystery. At the rate he's picking up the songs, the album should be ready in double quick time.
I've played 2 gigs: the Cockpit Bar and yesterday a lunchtime slot at the Vine. I enjoyed both a lot, and playing totally acoustically at the Vine was a change of pace (I even threw in a couple of covers - Norwegian Wood and Oliver's Army). If you missed me, I'm back at the Vine tomorrow lunchtime; that's the 28th. It's free in with free sarnies so if you work in Leeds centre make sure to come along (around 12.30ish).
'A Very British Earthquake' has been used on the Fashion Channel in the States and they're going to use 'I Haven't Got Any Famous Friends' too. My first TV plays, yay!
I've discovered a new live review in Sandman magazine which I'd missed - It covers the Sandanista gig and it's bang on the money I reckon...
I've bought some new jeans. They're black. Yep, I have got a life too y'know. Sheesh.
Carrying on in this busy vein, I'll be getting some new photos taken this weekend, so come back next week sometime and be prepared to marvel! I'm hoping they'll manage to fool a discerning audience into thinking I'm cool: Ok, so this is a nigh on impossible task, but hey Nick's a professional (He may need to be a miracle worker).
Finally, you should soon be able to download the album at all these music sites - Napster are already selling it and Rhapsody and I-Tunes should be too. E-music is offering 25 free downloads at the mo, so potentially you could get it free!
